Renowned UK feminist theatre company Scary Little Girls bring their Mayven festival to the United States

Feminist theatre company Scary Little Girls arrives on US soil this September, launching the first-ever Mayven Festival in the United States and shining a light on the stories of the women who shaped San Francisco.

Founder of Scary Little Girls, Rebecca Mordan, has partnered with producer Christina Li to curate a multi-disciplinary, multi-generational feminist arts festival. Enjoy a series of carefully curated, inspirational and fascinating events which share powerful female-led stories from San Francisco and beyond.

Join Rebecca and Christina this September and become a part of the celebration of the power and strength of women, as they launch Mayven San Francisco.

The festival includes a chance to hear stories from the women of Greenham Common; a self-guided literary walk with pop-up interactions through Chinatown; an illicit, literary seduction with mouth-watering chocolate treats and a comedic and meaningful performance exploring the effects of the porn industry.

Rebecca Mordan, artistic director of Scary Little Girls, said: “The Mayven is a sometimes overlooked stage in a woman’s life. She comes after Maiden and Mother and is described by some as containing ‘the inherent value and power of midlife’. Both powerful and authentic, a Mayven knows her worth and who she is and isn’t afraid to show it and receive respect. “

Rebecca continues: “San Francisco feels like a great fit for us to host the inaugural US Mayven festival – a place rich with stories of women who have helped to shape the city, and filled with culturally literate individuals who will devour the stories we can share.”

Christina Li, the US event producer who has helped to build the festival in San Francisco, said: “In this Festival, we are harnessing, promoting and celebrating the Mayven, and taking inspiration from what she represents to create a multi-disciplinary, multi-generational feminist arts festival together. I felt these were incredibly important stories to share with a wider audience and am thrilled to be the first to bring the Mayven festival to the United States.”
